In yet another shocking display of the failure of gun control measures in Democrat-run cities, the city of Chicago suffered a horrific spate of gun violence over the pre-4th of July weekend. Gun violence across the city killed at least four people and injured 52.
Just one of the weekend’s numerous violent outbursts resulted in a death and two dozen injuries late on Friday evening and carried on for more than 12 hours. The shootings continued throughout the city on Saturday and ended late in the evening on Chicago’s West Lawn.
The final shooting involved an 18-year-old man. ABC Chicago writes, “A witness reported that an 18-year-old man was arguing with a male in an alley about 11:13 p.m. in the 6000-block of South Komensky Avenue, Chicago police said. The male pulled out a gun and fired several rounds before running off.”
The victim was shot several times and was transported to Christ Medical where he was pronounced dead. Just a few hours earlier, another man was shot dead on the opposite side of the city. He was shot in the head and in the back and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The local media goes on to list several shooting incidents in locations all over the city, all going on semi-simultaneously.
“[…], a man was found shot to death in East Garfield Park…residents of West Huron Street heard gunfire and found the victim unresponsive in a gangway…the man had three gunshot wounds … officers recovered a weapon. He was pronounced dead on the scene.”
“Another man was killed in the same neighborhood…shot multiple times was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where he died…the shooting happened around 7:20 p.m. on West Walnut Street, authorities said.”
“Five people were wounded Saturday on the Near West Side…about 2:32 a.m. in West Jackson BLVD someone unleashed gunfire, all of the victims took themselves to local hospitals.”
“A 22-year-old woman was admitted to the University Medical Center with a bullet wound to her leg…”
“Four other gunshot victims went to Stroger Hospital. Two men shot in the leg and back and a 54-year-old man hit in the back had their conditions stabilized. A 49-year-old woman is in serious condition…Neither witnesses nor victims saw the shooter or know where the rounds came from, police said. Area detectives are investigating.”
“A bullet struck the side of an apartment building on the street, but the man who was sleeping in one of the units said he didn’t hear any gunfire.”
This is the SECOND TIME this year that more than 50 people were hurt in Chicago in a single weekend. And as we know, violent crime always rises during the summer, which means Chicago is likely to suffer more crime spikes before the season is over.
On the weekend before, four people were killed and 16 were injured by gun crime in locations all over the city.
Chicago politicians are some of the biggest proponents of gun control. The Cook County Democratic party has dominated Chicago politics since the early 1930s. They (claim to) represent voters in as many as 50 wards of the city and thirty suburban townships.
The entire state of Illinois is subjected to the gun control measures that are placed on the books in Chicago. Prosecutors are routinely directed to treat gun owners to the full power of the legal system each and every time they or their guns are involved in an incident.
Law abiding residents are constantly under the threat of neighborhood gun confiscations. Any time a Democrat wants to make a name for themselves, all they have to do is target legitimate gun owners who commit less than 1% of the violent crime in the entire state.
These are easy targets for liberal politicians who want to score political points with an emotionally driven demographic that is routinely misinformed about gun violence and gun stats.
Illinoisans who live outside of Chicago know this better than anyone else. Every new gun law that’s passed makes it harder and more legally perilous for them to be able to own a gun that might allow them to protect themselves and their property.
Legal gun owners can always be found, and have their guns taken- making the local leader look like a hero. Meanwhile, illegal guns go under the radar, impossible to find until they show up on a guilty suspect with blood already on his hands.
