Here’s a question for you. Why do we all go out of our way to open the door for pregnant ladies when we see them? Or why do we offer to carry heavy things for pregnant women? You could come up with a lot of answers, but it boils down to something simple. They are the most vulnerable among us.
Pregnancy makes a woman less agile and puts her in specific danger. More than that, the child growing within has absolutely no means to care for or defend itself. Any decent human being understands this, and we all come together to protect the vulnerable.
What does this have to do with AR-15s?
Before we talk about pregnant ladies and rifles, we have to set the stage. Lest we forget, there were thunderous cheers when Beto said that he was going to take our AR-15s. He may have dropped out of the race, but his ideas have not.
Consider Joy Behar of The View. She suggested on her show that Democrat politicians should lie about their desire to take guns until after they are elected. Then, they can illegally assault our rights. Make no mistake. There is still a powerful and active movement trying to disarm America. The left very much wants to take your ARs.
This brings us to the news. The Kings are an everyday family living in Florida. Recently, they endured true terror. At 9 p.m. on a Wednesday, Jeremy King was suddenly and violently assailed in his home by two masked gunmen. They beat him ferociously.
When his eight-months-pregnant wife looked in on the commotion, the attackers shot at her. She retreated into the back bedroom to grab the couple’s AR-15 and returned fire. One attacker was killed; the other fled.
The most vulnerable member of the family was able to save at least three lives that night. While her courage should not be understated, the reason for her success was technology. She was armed with a weapon that she could safely and effectively handle even in the advanced stages of pregnancy. Weapon of war or not, this is exactly what we should make available to expecting mothers if we care about their safety.
This story is simple and powerful. Liberals will tell you that no one needs that powerful of a weapon and that AR-15s are only used to murder children. When they throw that nonsense your way, share this story.
Explain how an AR-15 is light and easy to handle, and that’s why it’s one of the safest, easiest and most effective weapons for a pregnant woman. Explain how it enabled a person (an admittedly courageous and heroic person) who struggles to get in and out of chairs to defeat two armed gunmen and save her family.
This isn’t a weapon of war. It’s a weapon of self-defense, and the Kings proved that in the most humbling and terrifying way possible.
We could talk about slippery slopes. We could say that banning AR-15s is a bad idea because it leads to more bans and government overreach down the road. While that’s true, it ignores the more important point. AR-15s empower real Americans to defend themselves and their families. These are tools that save lives, and banning them only makes our most vulnerable citizens even more vulnerable.
