Are Gun Grabbers Poised for a Victory?

The NRA contributes to the campaigns of politicians who promise to protect the second amendment. What’s funny is, Democrats will tell you the exact same thing but in a snotty voice as if that’s not how politics works in this country.

In 2016, the NRA supported Donald Trump and six Republicans and ran campaign ads against additional firearms regulation- spending about $50 million. The gun rights group’s efforts were extensive, and the Republicans enjoyed sweeping victories that year, but it was Trump’s pro-Americanism that won the day.

But right now gun rights advocates are in a spending war with pro-gun control groups, and they may be losing. Every time there’s a mass shooting, gun control advocates start calling for action. These advocates are armed with all the misinformation Democrats and left-wing news outlets have been feeding them.

They say gun violence is on the rise. But it isn’t. They say the gun show loophole is getting guns into the wrong hands. But the gun show loophole doesn’t exist. They cite gun death stats, leaving out the overwhelming numbers of would-be violent perps who are the vast majority of shooting deaths. They use poorly defined terms like “assault-style weapon.”

Their rhetoric is effective, wrong- but effective- and it is jerking tears made of cold hard cash out of interest groups who hear the loud minority of gun control advocates as a mandate. These groups, not understanding the statistics, are pushing the funding war against the NRA and gun rights in a bad direction.

As the new school year kicks off, people are cringing and hoping some nut doesn’t waltz into their kid’s school and shoot the place up. Instead of asking for armed guards at schools, instead of volunteering to do the guarding themselves, they go and bother the most public relations sensitive groups they can find and cry at them.

It doesn’t make good sense, because the people they are hearing from represent a loud minority. For years, companies and politicians have told themselves that every voice they hear from represents a vast number of people who aren’t as vocal.

But in the age of Trump, that dynamic is flipping. Today, there are more people politically motivated enough to make noise. The insane ramping up of the tough talk from people on CNN and MSNBC is convincing people that they are fighting off the new Hitler. These loud, obnoxious voices do not represent any majority. They are simply the most useful idiots in the bundle of sticks.

But these ankle biters aren’t the only source of the problem. People like Michael Bloomberg, the founder of Everytown for Gun Safety, has donated millions to the cause. Last year, outspending the NRA was an effective strategy- and they are looking to do the same this year.

“Look at the Virginia races last year in the NRA’s own backyard and you see we had a total sweep,” -Shannon Watts, a founding member of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

You only have to change two letters in the name of that group and add a hyphen to make it accurate.

Everytown spent an estimated $2.5 million in last year’s elections, beating the NRA’s $2 million. Everytown also helped elect Democrats to public office. These candidates were in favor of universal background checks.

Universal background checks mean a father cannot give his son a gun without the government being notified. It means no gun can change hands without asking permission and paying a fee to big brother. According to exit polls, gun issues were the second most motivating topics for voters in state elections in 2017.

Shannon Watts said, “We did over 55 canvassing sessions alone for Governor Northam, and when you have boots on the ground, when you have a grassroots army, it matters a lot.”

Of course, all of this is beside the point. The gun control advocates simply do not understand the facts. They don’t understand the history of gun confiscation. They don’t understand that gun confiscation has always preceded tyrannical government action. They don’t understand gun violence stats, like the fact that the US is not a leader in mass shootings. They just don’t know these things.

We’re talking about people who worship government power- who believe that a law is a magic spell that totally eliminates whatever it bans.

Gun rights advocates are better informed. But that’s not enough. The second amendment has always been defended by patriots. And every election cycle, we have to step up to the plate and do it all over again. The consequences of inaction are unacceptable.
