The New Fight You Need to Know About: Gun Sanctuaries

Everyone on the planet knows that Chicago has a massive crime problem. Liberals make excuses for that problem on every level they can. The simple fact is that they’ve been running the city for decades, and none of their progressive ideologies have made a dent.

Unfortunately, the liberals of Chicago largely run the state of Illinois, and that has led to a new gun fight that mostly exists outside of the big city. That sets the stage for a new concept that is sweeping the state: gun sanctuaries.

What Is a Gun Sanctuary?

No, this is not a field where guns can roam freely. If you’ve heard of a sanctuary city, then you understand the basic premise of a gun sanctuary. Largely stealing from the concept, counties in Illinois are mirroring the actions of cities like San Francisco and actively working to undermine Illinois’ anti-gun legislation. While the concepts seem similar on the surface, they are dramatically different in practice.

Places like San Francisco are prosecuting law enforcement personnel who do their jobs and enforce federal law. Conversely, the gun sanctuary counties are passing resolutions that provide local law enforcement with more freedom in how readily they carry out Illinois gun legislation.

There are two things that are important to remember. First, none of these counties are trying to prosecute sheriffs who follow state law to the letter. Second, the Illinois gun laws are clearly unconstitutional to begin with. That’s why they have seen their efforts defeated in the Supreme Court time and again.

The Legal Battle

Naturally, the idea that a local government might not be completely anti-gun has sparked massive controversy. Leading the charge against gun sanctuaries is State Representative Kathleen Willis. You don’t need to be told she’s a Democrat, right?

She has officially labeled the sanctuary counties as participating in a “shameless political stunt.” Naturally, she’s ignoring the fact that a third of counties in the state are already self-proclaimed sanctuaries, and the number is likely to rise in November.

Instead of addressing widespread discontentment with her legislation, she has proposed a new bill that will brand sanctuary counties as “scofflaw counties” and try to impose financial penalties to them. Best of all, she calls sanctuary status unconstitutional and an attack on Illinois law and order. That’s rich.

What might be the most ironic part of the whole deal is that sanctuary status in Illinois is largely symbolic.

Leftist Tyranny

When you look at it all objectively, this is nothing short of another example of leftist tyranny. They know that their gun laws are unconstitutional. The Supreme Court reminds them of that fact on a regular basis. Rather than acknowledge the Bill of Rights, they continue to try and force unreasonable legislation on rule counties that clearly aren’t part of the problem in the first place.

We all know that Chicago is riddled with crime. We also know that liberal attempts to handle that crime have failed for about 40 consecutive years now. But, the leftist mentality is one that allows them to consistently ignore raw data and obvious facts.

With that ignorance comes their fanatic desire to curb gun ownership. That couldn’t possibly be made more clear than focusing legislative efforts on the safest counties in the state while areas of Chicago continue to have dozens of murders in a single night.

The underlying point to all of this is to remind you that despite their lies, liberals want your guns. They despise nothing more than autonomous, responsible citizens, and American gun owners fit that mold better than any group on the planet. Their self-righteous appetite for tyranny will never be satisfied, and that means that you can never rest.

Since we still have the 2nd Amendment, the keys to winning this battle are awareness and civic participation. Share these stories far and wide. Most of all, vote the liberals out of every office in our country. We’ve had enough.
