YouTube Has Entered the Arena: Gun Videos Are Banned

Did you know that YouTube is ancient Sumerian for “thought police?” But really, they’ve crossed the line. They have been not so secretly demonetizing and attacking conservative media on the site for years. In the last six months, that attack has rapidly escalated, and now many of their largest content contributors are fleeing the platform in a mass exodus.

Their latest announcement has completely removed any mystery or concealment of their efforts. YouTube is anti-gun, and if their political and lobbying efforts can’t get rid of the 2nd Amendment, then they will circumvent the law and use their position to attack our rights unilaterally.

The Thought Police

In specific details, YouTube has announced that they will ban any content that shows the assembly of firearms or provides links to the sale of firearms and certain accessories. Bump stocks were the only such accessory named in the announcement.

This Orwellian decision shows that they have fully thrown their hat in the ring with the progressives and anti-gun crowd. Despite the fact that gun ownership and videos on the topic are completely protected speech (by the first two amendments no less), Google will no longer tolerate a point of view that acknowledges this obvious fact.

This is an attempt for a complete suppression of thought. If you dissent against Google, they will silence you, and multiple channels have already been completely banned.

Let’s be perfectly clear. The justification for removing this content is that it is offensive to them. That’s it. Having a gun on a video or linking to certified sellers is offensive to them. It’s not illegal. It’s not immoral. It’s not in any way damaging. But, since it is counter to Google’s political agenda, it will not be tolerated.

Ignoring the Obvious

This is a classic leftist maneuver. They’ve had their butt kicks in gun control debates for decades, and the resurgence since the Parkland shooting has been no different. On every front, gun grabbers constantly lose their arguments because they are painfully uninformed. YouTube is no different. They’ll say that they are removing these videos to make the world safer, but the opposite is true. Disassembly and reassembly videos empower gun owners to take better care of their weapons. This prevents misfires and other major safety issues.

Linking to certified arms dealers ensures that otherwise uninformed buyers are purchasing from reputable sources. This helps the uninitiated avoid accidentally doing business illegally. It also protects them from buying subpar and dangerous equipment.

Sponsored content was an incentivized mode of connecting buyers with the good guys. When YouTube removes this access, they promote dangerous interaction. There is no question that the enforcement of this policy will directly hurt people — not help them.

Political Fallout

Perhaps the craziest aspect of this move is that Google is doing it despite sustaining massive financial losses so far this year. Gun videos on the site number in the millions. Just the cost of policing them will be substantial.

When you add in the revenue YouTube is throwing away, it will amount to many millions of dollars. And, this is ignoring how many jaded subscribers will simply walk away from the platform altogether. Doing this while the company is in the midst of a downward spiral is bold, and it is only going to compound their losses.

It’s pretty simple. A huge contingent of this country firmly believes in the 2nd Amendment. They do not take lightly to having their rights threatened, and unlike the penniless progressives, their disapproval comes with meaningful boycotts. Gun owners are not the kind of people to take a beating lying down. It may not be long before YouTube’s decision to align with the wrong party seals their doom.

Let’s not take this out of context. It’s perfectly fine for YouTube to stay politically neutral. It’s even fine for their owners and operators to lean left. What isn’t ok is an outright attack on a perfectly legal sect of content providers for the crime of disagreeing with YouTube’s political stance.

Let’s also make clear that this is a call for financial war, not an exchange of violence. The shooting that just took place at YouTube headquarters is a tragedy and unforgivable. It’s entirely ironic that the shooter was a vegan super progressive, but it is not something to be tolerated.

As united gun owners, we’ll destroy this vile company with our wallets, because this is still America, and despite the efforts of tech companies like Google, we are still free.

  1. I will be removing youtube from all my electronics, as well as the chrome browser. I do not need to use people that are so dead set against safety and security. They can keep their political agenda to themselves, and i will keep my money and data to myself.

  2. Democrats should have to attend classes to educate them about the stupid positions they are taking about serious issues in America. None of them are thinking responsibly!

    1. You know that can’t happen and those people stay demcrats. How could anybody stay a democrat that knew what the facts really are?

  3. So… what can we do as an alternative? I’ve seen plenty of articles on how bad YouTube & Google are but where else can we go for free speech?

    1. Email everyone you can, send invites to everyone for a debate on gun violence, let the left in as well, then we can make the world realize they are STUPID.

  4. As automobiles kill FAR more people each year than guns I can only assume that YouTube will also ban videos showing modifications & reviews to/for automobiles. This will disappoint me tremendously as I visit YouTube on average once or twice a year. Guess I will have to find something else to do for that 15 minutes a year of new free time! So Long YouTube, you DESERVE what you ask for and I humbly hope you get it, the sooner the better!

  5. I will disassociate myself from all google products!!!!!

  6. I only use you tube for information, but I can get it other ways as well!!

  7. So much for the Bill Of Rights …
There are a plethora of dangerous videos giving those of questionable mental stability and foolishly curious the ability to do harm.
That being said “Google”/ YouTube should complete it’s censorship by closing down!
I hope they don’t, they may start charging for our Gun Videos and a background check. A bit sarcastic but possible given the extremes of the
    social and political climate.

  8. Is the YouTube platform sacrosanct? Is there no room for competition? Perhaps what is needed is a competitive platform that will permit videos YouTube bans.

  9. Don’t boycott YouTube. Boycott anyone who advertises on YouTube! hit them where it really hurts! Call, Fax, and Email those companies and tell them ypou will not buy their products until they stop advertising on YouTube!

    1. Sorry for the typo’s. I could not find the edit function if there is one.

  10. Youtube will be committing financial suicide, but if they remove gun videos and limit Second Amendment, First Amendment rights they deserve to die. Liberal censorship is just as bad as dictators all over the world have done.

  11. Yes, Terry, you hit the nail on the head. The New World Order cannot progress as long as America doesn’t participate. And we will NOT so long as we hold on to our Bill of Rights. The NWO is a plan to gather all the countries/peoples of the world under one all powerful, elitist, socialist state . If you think that the people of a country have a difficult time getting rid of a Dictator, imagine how hard it would be to get rid of that type of government on the worlds’ scale. Somehow someone with money or backing needs to come up with a system sorta like YouTube, but believing in the Bill of Rights.

I will continue to spend evenings watching YouTube, but only to follow Mark Davis’s suggestion. I will be starting a personal of all companies that advertise on YouTube and will be sending them notice that their products are OFF my purchase list.

If enough of us do the thing, YouTube will either go change their ways or better yet, go out of business.

  12. Mark Davis, I think you hit right on the head. I’m about to do the same thing to those advertisers that pulled out on Laura Ingraham on Fox News. Don’t mind the typos, we all get a little wound once in a while.

  13. What a pile of bulls***, YouTube suffered their own massacre.

I support the second amendment, Americans do have their rights to bear arms and be an effective fighting force. Lazy thinking has fetishized guns, affixing an inordinate amount of power to a mere tool.

If you want, get your semiautomatic rifle and train on fighting with it, stopping at ownership is not preserving any freedom but your delusions. The second wasn’t placed in the Bill of Rights to support treason and insurrection against the very Government created by the Constitution, It was meant to enable militias to defend that government. Madison would be shaking his head in disbelief at these alleged patriots who hate the government he wrote into existence.

And YouTube is a private company who controls their own content, the Bill of Rights keeps government from enacting laws, private companies are not writing bills to pass into laws.
